I am suffering the same problem described by Bob Johnson in a post dated
11/24/2005, entitled Customize Notification, which apparently was never
resolved. When I attempt to customize items in the notification area the only
choice I am offered is "Hide when inactive."
That is, after getting to the Taskbar and Start Menu Properties dialogue,
the Hide inactive icons button is checked and the Customize button is
clicked. But when I select any of the Current Items, the Associated Behavior
is locked in at "Hide when inactive." It is impossible to display or select
any of the other options that are supposed to be available (Always hide or
Always Show). I have tried clicking on the item and clicking on the behavior.
Neither works. Based on Johnson's thread, it appears that it might be an HKCU
issue. Anyone have any suggestions?
