Cannot complete WMP 10 Setup

After downloading Media Player 10 (or9), I'm getting Message:
"Cannot complete Windows Media Player 10 Setup. It was not possible to
complete Setup. WMP 10 was not installed.To update Windows, run WMP 10 Setup
again."

I have Windows XP Home, DSL, enough space, no spyware or viruses, updated
Windows. Other downloads, mp3, itunes and everything else works fine.
I have reinstalled Windows from CD - didn't help either to get WMP installed.
I had WMP 10 on this computer before and worked fine - but not now.

Please help with your suggestions.
