Windows Media Player 10 incompatible with this version....

Win XP Pro SP2 fully patched.
Windows Media player v9 came with this system 1 year ago. It quit working
and some time ago I tried loading 10. It didn't work then and does not work
today. The error message says this version of WMP 10 is not compatible with
my O/S. My system meets all requirements that I can find. I tried loading
WMP 11 and received the same error. I cannot find an answer to this issue
anywhere. Help!

You probably uninstalled or deleted WMP9 before trying to install WMP10.
Which deletes critical System32 files. Newer versions of WMP must be
installed overtop of previous versions to work properly it is designed that
way.
Download WMP9, reinstall it. Then download WMP10 and install it overtop
of version 9 (9.7Mb). You may want to try a System Restore due to the
deleted system files first to a day or so before you started messing with it.
Start>All Programs>Accessories>System Tools>System Restore
WMP10 (12.2Mb) and older - OldVersion.com
http://oldversion.com/program.php?n=wmp
