Cannot Access Recent Documents

Morning,

I have a Group Policy in testing at the moment to be rolled out to our
300ish users. Everything is working correctly, but i have one problem which
is really annoying me.

Basically, In Office programs open / save dialogue boxes the user cannot
access their recent docuements or Favourites. We are currently running a
system policy, and they can under this.

From what i understand, it is becasue i have the restrict access to all
drives setting configured. I dont want users to be able to see any local
drives - but i do want them to be able to access their history folder and
Favourties.

What is wierd is that the recent documents on the start menu works
correctly, and favourites in IE works correctly. Also, the dialogue box is
different to that of say, notepad.

I have tried editing the locations in the places menu in the registry, but
using the %USERPROFILE% switch and full UNC path does not work.

If anyone has any ideas i would be grateful

Cheers

Part of the problem you mention just might be a limitation with
Windows and Group Policies. Once you have users locked down, its
sometimes not exactly easy to get around denying all of the
access. And allow exceptions.

I have faced the issue a couple of times before but never quite
found a resolutoin.

yes - it does seem to be a bit wierd, mainly because the problem didnt happen
in System Policy!

If you interested, this was my work around:

I redirected recent documents and favourites to the users Home drive, using
a kix scipt at login.

I then added custom places in the my places bar (see microsoft knowledge
base article 282087)

all of this was done in the registry, and then added to akix script that
runs at login.
