Hi,

I usually save my IE favourties in D drive,so that I can copy and paste them
after a fresh install, and it usually works fine, the saving and the copy and
pasting, and the favourites display the way it should.
But this time,i accidentally deleted the favourties folder from C:\Documents
and Settings\username,and when i try to replace it with the saved version
from d drive,it tells me either, there is already a links folder or some
other file and finally does not allow me to paste the favourites folder with
or without the "links" folder to C:\Documents and Settings\jamie.
ALSO i cannot see the favourties folder in the folder list in C:\Documents
and Settings\jamie.I have chosen option to be able to see all hidden files.I
think it definitely has been deleted but some windows file registers the
favourties folder as still being there.

How do i fix this?
Thanks in advance

the error message also says that the disk is write protected.I tried to
change the properties in both the destination and source folders from "write
only",but it wont change.
I have never had a problem with copy and pasting the favourites previously

Hi Jamie,

Drag the Favorites Folder only, from the Backup drive, to C:\Documents and Settings\Jamie and release. Then it asks you, if you want to overwrite it, click Yes. I do all the time. If it doesn't work, then rename your current User ID, then create a new User ID, with your old name.

You need to import the Address Book, but you can move the E-mail Store Folder from one User ID to another one. Once you move everything over, delete the other User ID.

Hi Jamie,

On the files that can't be overwritten, don't tried to. Click no. See if the copying of files, links, continues after clicking no. Remember you don't want to start moving the Favorities until the old Jamie User ID files are deleted.

So after creating a new User ID, log into the new User ID. Move the E-mail Store Folder over. Import the Address Book. Move the My Documents, Pictures and Music over. Also, don't forget the Application Data files. Delete the old User ID.

If it balks at copying, can you take ownership of the files? You did not mention, which XP operating system you are running, Home Edition, Pro or 64-bit?

Hi thecreator,

I tried that already. Some settings have changed for some reason, after i did
a reinstall on my pc,and i cant replace any files in C:\Documents and
Settings\Jamie,at all.I have already tried the below. But i will try it
again.I also get a message that one file is write protected or that a file
of that name already exists and it wont let me overwrite it,after 1 or 2
attemps, and i get a different message on each attempt!

I have never had any of these problems before,as i always paste back my
saved favourites from my backup drive.

For some reason, after accidentally deleting the favourites from C:\Documents
and Settings\Jamie,the favourites are still registered as there...why??

What am i going to do if this does not work??!!

thanks
Jamie
