IE 7 & Vista - Favorites list is empty and can't organise or add t

I have experienced similar problems to others in the thread Favorites: Read
Only? I copied the favourites directory from my old PC to a new Vista
pre-loaded PC. I could see all of the exisitng favourites, but couldn't add
any new ones. I followed the suggestions in the thread referred to earlier.
Now I have a Favourties directory in c:\users\useraccount directory, with the
recommended low integrity setting. I can't see any of the favorites in IE7,
nor can I organise favorites or add to them.

I have set up another user account and all aspects of favorites works for
that account.

I have run "icacls favorites" for both favorites directories, and the output
is the same, other than the different user names.

Any ideas?

Thanks, Megan

That's the problem .. you should have "imported" the favourites, not copied
the directory.

In Vista, IE7 is allowed access to only a few directories on the harddrive
and no others. It's called Protected mode. These directories are specially
marked somehow (I don't know all the details). Your swapping the old
directory for the Vista created one means IE7 no longer has access to its
own Favorites directory.

You might try creating a new user account and moving all your stuff over. A
'pain but it works. When it comes to your favorites, import them thru IE7,
don't just copy. You might try turning off Protected mode, but then that
means you run IE7 less securely. I think you should just create a new user
account and use that. Once eveythings moved you can delete the old account.
