Canceling print jobs - long time for docs to disappear

I hope this isn't a re-post...my original seems to have disappeared.

When I cancel print jobs or purge docs from the print queue, it takes as
long as 4-5 minutes for the documents to disappear from the list of print
jobs. Is this normal and, if not, how can I speed it up?

(Solo PC connected to a single printer via LPT1.)

It is normail in many circumstances. The data has to be deleted from the printer spooler and that can be slow.
