can you reverse a Windows 2003 Server Domain Functional level

Does anyone know of a way to reverse a Windows 2003 Domain Funcitonal level? We are in the proccess of upgrading our NT4 Domian to 2003. When we set up the first Win2k3 server we didn't expect to put any Win2k DCs in the domain so we set it to Windows 2k3 Interim (no 2K DCs). Well, we have some Compaq 3000 PII servers that report a Multiprocessor configuration error when upgrading to win2k3. Apparently this only affects Win2k3 because the Multiprocessor works in NT/2K. Rather than buy new servers we would like to put 2K server on them. Before we can do that we need to back off the Functional level to 2K mixed. Is this possible?

All documentation clearly state that raising functional levels is
irreversable.
