Can only boot to safe mode

I'm running Windows XP Pro SP2 on a Dell. After no new hardware or
software, my computer would only boot to safe mode. It hangs with a
blank screen when I try to do a normal boot.

I tried last known good configuration as well as a roll-back to an
earlier date. I put the drive in another Dell and it booted fine. I ran
every virus and mal-ware check there is.

Chkdsk turned up nothing. Nor did any of the SystemWorks or SystemSuite
utilities. I didn't think they would since I can boot on another Dell.

I don't want to re-install Windows because if the drive works in
another computer, that won't help.

It can't be a corrupt file or it wouldn't boot elsewhere.

Anyone have any ideas???
Thanks in advance.

You could try booting to xp cd,recovery, press enter for password, then type:
CHKDSK C: /R After its thru, type:EXIT Let xp start up.You might
try,power-off,
remove the battery, locate the CMOS pin on the board, move the pin from 1-2
to 2-3 position for 1.5 minutes or so,then back to 1-2 position,replace
battery,
start computer. You'll have to reset basic BIOS settings before xp can run,set
time, date, then exit page, select "Load optimal defaults" or
similiar,save,then re-
set BIOS for any add-in cards or misc.

Many thanks.
But it turnes out to be a bad video card.
That would explain why Black & White Safe Mode would appear, but the
normal boot would only get me a blank screen.

Hope this helps someone else.
