Hi all,

I have a laptop that could always be plugged into our domain and obtain
an ip via dhcp. You could then browse, ping etc etc. I have a
wireless/wired network at home. If I go home I can use both the wired
and wireless network.

But when I come into the office and plug the lapop into our switch I
"seem" to get connected, i.e. I obtain the correct ipaddress via dhcp
but that's about it. I cannot ping ipaddresses or hostnames from the
laptop, I also cannot ping the laptop from the server that gave out the
ipaddress thru dhcp.

I have tried using the netsh utility and I have also tried deleting the
lan card and reinstalling - all to no avail.

can anyone help me get this thing going ?

cheers,

Adam

Hi,

I would suspect your network admin locked the system down. Have you asked
him/her about this yet?

Your office IT support can.

They may have implemented some form of authentication before you actually
can use the network/internet - despite getting an IP (as you would have to
get one to "authenticate".)

Hi guys,

no, Network Admin has not locked anything down.

Any other suggestions.

cheers,

What firewall are you using? Some firewalls have to be configured to trust
the subnet. You work subnet may be different from your home subnet.
