OKAY, so basically I need to reinstall the windows XP, and then
reinstall all other programs. Wonderful.

This is very annoying. I was always able to start Windows without a
password and then suddenly it asked me for password - I think it could
have been as a result of some automatic Microsoft update. Now I need to
dig out the windows discs and reinstall everything.
