PowerToys for Windows XP

I recently installed PowerToys for Windows XP. I changed the login such that
the admin password is required to login. Unfortunately, the admin password
is 'blank' and I am unable to login. I have installed a new instance of XP
on a second partition.

- A 'blank' password is not accepted to login as the admin.
- What steps can I take to correct this situation? Can I modify a registry
entry or the login security file in the System32 folder?

I'd really like to avoid reinstalling the OS at this moment in time if I
could.

Thanks in advanced.

First, which version of XP? Home, Pro or MCE?

Second, you should not be using the "default" built-in "administrator"
account. This account is for background "services" and emergency user
account "fixing."

If you can successfully login to the XP, does the "user accounts"
happen to have a .Net / ASP user account?

Why would you choose to logon as Administrator. This is a bad idea
unless you are trying to resolve a problem that can't be fixed by a
user with administrative rights. It is not for day to day use, unless
you like living dangerously.

If you added a password to the Administrator account (which has none
by default) you better remember it or we'll see you again when your
Administrator account doesn't work because you forgot the password.

By default the Admin account password
is "Blank", none required, just press enter.

Did you change the Administrator password?

logging into your
own computer as
an administrator is
a privilege that is
yours to have and
use.

a freeware called
siw could reveal all
the passwords but
it would require you
to log into windows.

perhaps, something
here can help:

Hold down the Shift key until the logon screen
appears. This skips the auto logon.

Thank you for your response.

XP Pro on a personal computer that only myself use. Is there a default
admin password? I don't recall whether there is.

I acknowledge that the default built in admin password is not preferable,
although due to the circumstances, I am willing to accept that risk.

I am in the emergency account user fixing mode.

I can successfully login to the second instance (installation) of XP Pro
that I installed in the hope that I can correct my "Tweak" mistake.

I am up to date with the XP hot fixes & SP3.

I don't want to login as an admin, but that is the only option proviided
due to the "PowerTool Tweak" that I executed inadvertently.

the login interface only allows the admin to sign in. I donot intend to use
this as a day-to-day activity. I am in recovery mode to re establish my
prior configuration.

Thank you. This provides me a couple of options to look into. I appreciate
your expertise.

I inadvertently modified the wrong value while using the Tweak UI. Hence,
the Admin login is all that is displayed. My prior login method did not
require changing, but that is past history. My objective is to get back to
the previous user login interface.

So you can log in using the 'Administrator' account
by entering a blank (no password) and then use TweakUI
to change the accounts displayed back to the way they were.

Unfortunately no. The TweakUI appears to have altered the login in some
manner, hence I am unable to login using the admin account.

Although, I was able to use the Ctl - Alt - Del twice method and was able to
login using my user account. I have used TweakUI to login automatically
using my user account. Looks as this nut has been cracked.

Thank you for your thoughts to 'crack' this nut!
