I downloaded a music cd and attached the file to play during my power point
slide show, but I can't hear it. I can hear other sound clips, but not the
song I downloaded.

Where did you download it from? What type of audio file is it? If you
purchased it from a website, it may be copyright protected. What version of
PowerPoint are you using? What steps did you follow to insert the music in your
presentation?

Sonia,
I downloaded the song "Takin' Care of Business" from a music CD entitled
"The Best of Bachman Turner Overdrive - The Millenium Collection", produced
by The Island Def Jam Music Group in 2000. The song was originally released
December 1973. The type of audio file is windows media audio. I am using
"Microsoft Office Powerpoint 2003, Part of Microsoft Office Standard Edition
2003 for Students and Teachers". I clicked on "insert", then "movies and
sounds", then "sound from file", then clicked the file I downloaded "Takin'
Care of Business".
I hope you can help me.
Thank you, Ann Russell

Can you hear the downloaded song outside of PowerPoint?

I suspect that the "ripped" music track has been protected . Did you purchase
and download it from a website, or did you rip it from the CD using Windows
Media Player? In both cases, it is probably protected from distribution,
causing PowerPoint to refuse to play it.

Yes, I can hear it when I play it on Windows media player.

I ripped it from a CD using windows media player. You must be right, it must
be protected from distribution, causing power point to refuse to play it.
A friend of mine made a slide show with music, so I thought I could do it.
She used a different software program. I guess my options are to borrow her
software or to play the music separately from the slide show. Any
suggestions would be appreciated. Thank you. Ann Russell

Use google and you'll find other rippers that are free and easy to use. I use
Audiograbber.

Sonia,
Thanks for your patience with me. I used google to locate audiograbber and I
downloaded it. I used audiograbber to rip the song from my cd. But when I
clicked "insert" then "movies and sounds" then "sounds from file", only the
files on windows media player popped up. How do I insert the song from
audiograbber into powerpoint?
Thanks again. Ann Russell

You have to navigate to the folder where you saved the track that you ripped.
Where did you save the MP3 when you ran Audiograbber? In the Insert Sound
dialog box go to that location.

IT WORKED! IT WORKED! My son and I were jumping up and down and hugging each
other. Thank you so much for your help.
My next task is to insert a movie clip. I would like to copy a clip from a
dvd I have (the "ogres are like onions" scene from Shrek). How can I copy a
scene from a movie to insert in a power point slide show?
Thanks again, Ann Russell

You start by writing to the film company and asking for permission to use their
copyrighted material. I could be wrong, but I wouldn't expect a positive
response. I think I would plan to use some material that is "public domain" or
an original clip you create yourself.
