Can MS listen to customers?

Well give Microsoft a bell and tell them what's wrong. Requests
of this nature come better from an MVP than from a thousand
customers.

We cannot get the attention of the right person to influence.

More like tilting at windmills,

Never a good thing to do.
but if no one points out that there's a
problem, then most people will think that there is no problem.

Oh I think many of us do. It's just that we see a different way to resolve
the problem.
I
appreciate that you provided that data. Objective data is good. The
only reason I'm a Linux zealot

An enthusiast is one thing but a zealot is not something I would want
to be. It implies being blinkered and unreceptive to the needs of others.
is that after years of dreading going to work every morning in a
windows only shop,

You may have been unhappy working in that shop but I doubt that selling
windows related products had anything to do with your state of
unhappiness.
I'm now happily employed in
a predominantly Linux/Unix shop. I'm happy and I want other people to
be happy, too.

Then allow them to live happy in blissful ignorance. Most Windows users
are not interested in the Windows / Linux debate. It is off topic in this
newsgroup. They come here for help with a Windows related problem
not for a boring exposition on how great Linux is!
Sorry if that makes me a bad person to some people.

You are not sorry. If you were you would not taunt others who hold different
views to your own.
Good luck with that.

Sarcasm is the lowest form of wit!
Keep your virus protection software up to date.

Why do you think that I might not?

"Not in American Politics."

I do not watch American Politics closely but I doubt that this
statement is true.
It surely must depend on how the floating American voters view the
type of mistake made.

"Kennedy took the blame for Bay of Pigs"

It may have been a fiasco but did it have a significant impact on the
American
floating voter.

Yes, they ended up living through the Cuban Missile Crisis. Had Kennedy
not gone through the debacle of the Bay of Pigs, I doubt the later
missile crisis would have ended without a nuclear exchange.
Did it significantly affect anyone , save for a
minority community
in SE US? In any event the advent of the war in Vietnam would have
diverted attention away from what had happened.

Don't know what Kennedy would have done with Vietnam. He & LBJ had
different ways of doing things.
Were Iraq's weapons dumps secured the day after their armed forces had
surrendered? I think not! Thousands have died needlessly as a
consequence. I do not think it was the result of lack of numbers on
the ground.

Really? LOL!
It would have
only taken a few engineers to destroy them. Were the engineers told
what needed to be done? No doubt other mistakes were made but the
one I mention must be one of the most crass

There wouldn't have been enough engineers to do the job before much of
it was stolen. And engineers would be ground troops too.

I don't taunt them so much for their different views, as for the lame
rationalizations they use for putting up with those "views".
Sarcasm is the lowest form of wit!

I meant that sincerely, but since you want to get down:

Oh, right. You use IE. There's no point in using virus protection.
You're going to get infected sooner or later, no matter what you do.
Why do you think that I might not?
See above.

I don't use virus protection and I don't get infected.

Explain what is so great about Unix that a Unix company, Microsoft (Unix developer, Unix based IT, & even developed Dos/Win on Unix machines and if you are using Unix on Intel - written by MS), abandoned Unix and converted to using Windows NT.

"Oh, right. You use IE. There's no point in using virus protection.

I have used IE since it was born, and have never had a virus infection..
many others could say this too, some of whom I have known and do know
personally..

Nope, just putting your rant into perspective. And you certainly have no
idea about that which to claim to know, and may I add the inability to
even vaguely hope to comprehend. So as you wander off into your little
self-delusion populated world I bid you bon voyage!

You decided that a few years ago not us.

Actually in the UK the Queen has stayed out of politics and so did
her father before her. I am not aware as to the last time Royal Assent
was withheld to any law, which had passed through the
parliamentary process.

When was the last time it occurred in Australia?

Do Autralians print maps with South at the top? I never knew that? There's
no particular reason why either North or South should be at the top, and I
always assumed that our convention of putting North at at the top was
followed everywhere.

Some say that Unix\Linux is old technology, good, but old. Whatever they
mean by that is for them to know (I don't undersatnd what they mean by it).
Never seen a virus bombed Unix\Linux box but I've seen one that been hacked
by an intruder. Andy C.(never #) is exactly that, not or never sharp. What
we do need though is a competitor to the Windows Operating system to bring
the license price down, especially for personal\home usage. I also haven't
been infected by a virus. Mac, Linux, Windows what ever OS, just take the
good advice from a clever advocate in this group of Commense Sense
Computing, you'll find him Andy C. The only thing I really take issue with
I.E, is the feature bloat of the Index.dat files Windows locks. Where
Firefox doesn't.

The larger the company the lower quality customer service you get Andy C.
(never #), not all. Why believe in a world where such things don't happen to
the point where it's upset you so much.

It is not unknown for criminals in Australia to 'don' a bucket.. Ned Kelly
was initially unsuccessful as a top flight crook until he saw pictures of
Canadians with EYE cut-outs in their Halloween masks.. this gave Ned an
idea.. :-)

Guys, Guys, Guys. OK all true (maybe). If you look at the world in it's
present state you'll notice very easily that there are two types of people
in this world. Australians and barbarians. Everyone that comes here wants to
stay and even seen grown men with tears in their eyes when their visas
expire. It hard to see as we send people back into a lost, disillusioned
world.

We have the most civilised (not civilized) Westminster System that has
ensured are sane society.

Never - she'd (Elizabeth II, Queen of Australia and Her other Realms and Dominions - guess that means places like England and Scotland) be an ex queen the day after.

But Her representative, the Governor General, and her other representatives, the Governors, have sacked Governments which leads to a constitutional crisis. Last time was 1975 (see the mini series The Dismissal) federally and in the 40s at the state level (or states are constitutional monarchies too).

If we had voted to be a republic we would have an Australian Republic but the states would still have the Queen as the state's Head of State.

Until recently the British PM was the Queen's chief advisor on Australia. Now it's the Australian PM. I don't know who would be her chief advisor on matters affecting states. The states draw their sovereignty from the Crown. When she became Queen of Australia (in the 70s, she was just the queen before that), Queensland made her Queen of Queensland too.

Maps. Indonesia freaked a couple of years ago when the found a Chinese map showing part of Indonesia as being part of China.

Yes we are civilised. Last week I had to get people to drive me home so I wouldn't get bashed in race riots. Hang on, that doesn't sound too good.

You've moved off topic. We were discussing admitting to mistakes.
Don't know what Kennedy would have done with Vietnam. He & LBJ had

JFK was seen in very positive terms in the UK and we were all shocked
by his death.
Really? LOL!

In the aftermath of a defeat a lot can be achieved by small numbers
properly co-ordinated. The window of opportunity was missed because
there was no master plan, other than to find Saddam, his henchmen and
some illusory weapons of mass destruction.

When you capture a body of enemy troops you do not leave their surrendered
weapons before them to be picked up and used against you when your back
is turned.
There wouldn't have been enough engineers to do the job before much of it
was stolen. And engineers would be ground troops too.

After a week or so yes. Decisive action needed to be taken by airborne
sappers acting whilst chaos reigned.

Whether or not we agree in terms of the precise nature of mistakes made
in Iraq after Sadam's downfall no political administration can admit to a
mistake of this sort. Having said that many in the UK were surprised to see
both Bush and Blair re-elected. Perhaps the ineffectiveness of the leaders
of the political opposition played it's part.
