Can I turn a web site link into a desktop icon?

I've made lots of desktop shortcut icons, but never tried to put a link to a web site as an icon. Is there a way to do
this?

Sure:

"c:\Program Files\..\iexplore.exe" www.google.com

You need to find out exactly where iexplore resides on
your PC, then reflect the location in the above command.

I'm using Firefox 2. I wonder if there is a way to do this so it will open up a new tab in Firefox.

Check the Firefox FAQs and look for "Command Line" options.
You might also try Google.

Hi,

Right click on your desktop.

Go through New/Shortcut.

Type or paste in the URL including the http:// part of it.

When prompted enter a name of your choosing.

That do what you want?

You can also just grab the URL & drag it to your desktop or to the quick
load area of the task bar. After placement you can also right click on
it and rename it something shorter than the full URL address for
clarity, to you. Drag-n-drop works in all versions from 2k back I have
not used ME, XP or Vista but it should be the same since the keyboard
shortcuts have not changed in XP.
