Can I transfer XP from my old computer to my new one?

I have a new computer on order. I would like to format my
old computer and reinstall my XP on the new machine. How
can I do this? Thanks, Ian
 
Is your version of XP a bundled OEM one? If so, you may not be permitted to
do this - check your EULA or call whomever you bought the computer from. If
it's a retail copy, and you are *not* planning on running the OS on both
computers, you should be OK - may need to call Microsoft to re-activate it

Assuming a retail license (OEM licenses are not transferable),
simply remove WinXP from the computer it is currently on, and install
it onto the new one. If it's been more than 120 days since you last
activated that specific Product Key, you'll most likely be able to
activate via the Internet without problem. If it's been less, you
might have to make a 5 minute phone call.
