Can I save as a protected PDF?

I have some business documents that I would like to be able to send to a
client in PDF format, but I don't want them to be able to steal my proposal
and edit it by opening it in Acrobat Reader and doing a Save as... to convert
it to a Word document. Basically, I want a secured, read-only PDF from a
Word Document without using third-party applications to do it. If that is
possible.

Thanks!

This question belongs in an Acrobat forum. But yes, it is possible. See the
topic "Security" in Acrobat help. Certificate security is the safest; there
are many password breakers out there.

You'll need a thirdy party application.

*ANY* document that you allow someone to see can be copied. You can
certainly add security to the PDF document if it is created with Acrobat (as
opposed to some of the cheap or free clones) which will disable some
functions, but it will not stop anyone copying and recreating the document
for more than a few minutes. There is no such thing as a *SECURE* document.
