Can I Run in Safe Mode Forever?

I have tried everything I can find to get my PC (with Windows XP SP 2) to
stop rebooting itself when I log on but nothing has worked. I'm fine in Safe
Mode and as long as I select Safe Mode With Networking, I can access the
Internet so I'm wondering if there's any good reason to stop using Safe Mode?

Safe Mode is a stripped down version of Windows designed for troubleshooting. It was never intended for day to day use. You will find that much of Windows' functionality is missing. In addition, most software will not run properly or at all in Safe Mode.

Michael,
Did you install something or download something prior to this happening?
Sounds like you might have a virus. Do a scan and then try to do a system
restore

Safe Mode with Networking leaves your computer very vulnerable when using
the Internet. Anti-virus, anti-spyware, and firewall programs are not fully
functional in safe mode.

I'm fairly confident that I have a virus but when I ran a virus scan it did
not find any. I've tried all of the troubleshooting steps recommended here
and other sites and the problem persists. I've never had a problem as serious
as this one, so I was not sure what Safe Mode was about. Sounds like it's not
a good option. Back to the drawing board (just wish I knew what to draw :))
