Can I reinstall Xp with a different languege CD than the one bought.

Pablo Malave

I mistakenly ordered a PC with Windows XP Professional in
Spanish. My question is, since I have copied of XP Prof
in English, Can I use one of those copies to install XP
Eng to the computer that came with Spanish without
violating any LicenseAgreement?

Does the Spanish License is valid for a XP English one?

please include a link to a microsoft article that discuss
this issue.

tnx
Pablo

You can't upgrade one language version over another.

Legally you are required to buy a new, full version and use a new PK.

Physically (leaving the legality issue aside for the moment), I have no idea
if a Spanish PK will work on an English version, but somehow I doubt it.

Len:
Thanx for the quick answer. The thing is that I have
losts CD's for XP English in my office from computers
that I buy all the time. I failed to specify the XP
English version on one of the computers and since it for
Puerto Rico, Dell assumed Spanish for the laguaje.

Im not interested on upgrading XPEng on XPSpa. I want to
know if I can format and install XP Eng on that computer,
since I have a valid XP licence for it (Spanish), without
violating the License Agreement. I bought the XP
license, I just want to know if its valid for any
languaje installation so I can install the english
version. also to know if the PK will work.

Pablo,

As I stated, legally I think that the answer is no.

Also as I stated, I doubt that the PK for XP-Spa will work if you use a copy
of XP-Eng. However, I don't deal in multi-language installations, so I've
never tried it and don't know for certain that this is the case.

If you have a Dell rep that you deal with, can you contact them and see if
they will take back the XP-Spa and replace it with a XP-Eng CD and PK?
Explain the error and see if they will help you.
