Windows XP upgrade in a different language?

I ordered the Windows XP Home english upgrade for a Windows 98 spanish
machine. Is there a problem with that? I don't mind the change in language,
but, aside for the fact I did not think about this until after I ordered, I
just found the spanish version is %50 more expensive. Will the upgrade work?
If not, can it be tricked into working?

Oh, yes. You cannot upgrade or convert from one language version of
the OS to another.

No. In order to upgrade over a Spanish version
of Windows 98, you'll need the "Spanish Upgrade"
version of Windows XP.

You can trick it by first loading Win 98 (English version)..

The link you provided says you cannot upgrade directly, but it says you can
solve the problem with multiboot. That seems confusing to me. So, that
means the upgrade will not overwrite, but can install beside the original, in
a different partition?

Assuming that you have a separate, unused partition available and a
license for a qualifying product (in the same language as the Upgrade), yes.
