I have used 'track changes' and 'view markups' in a document. Now that I
have stopped tracking the changes and have hidden the markups the document is
much bigger than it was and if I copy parts of it into another document the
markups go with it. Can I delete the tracking and markups from the original
document and still keep the changes?
Try to clarify what you mean by "still keep the changes". If you mean
that the final document should look like what you see when the
Reviewing toolbar is set to "Final" instead of "Final With Markup",
then yes -- click the down arrow next to the Accept Change button and
select "Accept all changes in document". Then save.
If you mean that the markup should be invisible, not copyable, but
somehow still available to be reviewed, then no -- the markup is
either in the document file or not. That has nothing to do with
whether or not you're currently displaying the markup. If you want to
remove the markup, you have to either accept or reject all the changes
(or accept some and reject others), and then the markup is no longer
available for review.
If you want to send a document without markup to someone else, but
keep a record of the changes, then you have to make a copy of the
document (File > Save As) and accept/reject the changes in that copy.
Keep the original intact but don't send it anywhere.
