Can I deleat s*** files in the root directory?

I'm trying to defrag my C drive and have to free up some space. I've got 4
files in the root C: that are about 1.75 Gb and 2 that are about 3.5 Gb that
do not appear to have been modified since 11/20/2006. Can I deleate these
files to free up space?

Maybe I should be more specific as I now realize s*** could be interpreted as
a curse word (sorry about that). An example of these file names is: s14c.e

Hope that helps clarify what I meant.
