I would like my Windows XP machine to restart in Standby mode after
the power is turned on; is this possible? My BIOS will automatically
boot Windows when the power cable is connected, but it doesn't go
directly into Standby mode as I desire.

I dont think you can boot into standby........but if you set it for 1 minute XP
will go into standby 1min after starting if you dont touch anything.
Dont you have an on/off switch on your system??
Why not leave the system on in standy mode all the time till you need it??

That is exactly what I want. So after an uncontrolled power failure,
I'd like my system to return to standby mode. And no, I do not want
to purchase a UPS.

After an uncontrolled power failure I'd want to check the system ..bios settings
and all as I turn it on.
So in my Bios I have it set to stay off if there is a power failure.God knows
what could have fried or will malfunction upon reboot.
