I'm running Vista RC1 and Outlook 2007 (beta 2) and minus a few driver
issues, everything seems to run just fine. However, I can't get Outlook 2007
to connect my company's Pop email server. It times out with 0x8004210B error.

I've double checked all the setting and they look right. I even deleted and
recreated the account in Outlook, with no luck. I can access via webmail, so
there is no issue with the server itself. I am trying to re-install Outlook
2003 to see if that works, though I'm not optimistic.

I saw one other thread about this, but it trailed off. Anybody else out
there run into this or have any ideas? Any assistance would be greatly
appreciated.

I do know that MS is not recommending the installation of Office 2007 beta 2
at this point on RC1. I know others have done it successfully, but you may
have run into one of the "gotchas" of using Office 2007 b2 on RC1. Supposed
to be a "technical refresh" coming soon that is compatible with RC1.

Can you get your mail with the "Windows Mail" application that comes with
Vista?

Thanks for your responses.

I cannot retrieve it with Windows Mail either.

I did read about the Office Technical Refresh but already had 2007 installed
(it was a new machine). Attemps to remove 2007 and install Office 2003 failed
(Outlook gives a corrupted file error for messsaging). Does anybody know how
far off the Office TR is from being released?

Or any other ideas?

If you can't get mail via "Windows Mail" either then the "Technical Refresh"
for Office probably wont help. I think it must be in the settings for your
pop3 server. Can you ping it?

Turns out it was McAfee's email/vurus scanner. Disabled it and presto...
