Camera Wizard problems

D

David

I recently had to reload my system from scratch.
Everything seems to be working fine except the camer and
scanner wizard.

I have an Olympus 510 zoom digital camera. Before the
reload I was able to plug my camera in and copy the
pictures off the camera, through the wizard. Im no
longer able to do that..

Does anyone have any ideas i might be able to try. My
camera has never actually shown up in the Camera and
scanner wiread area in control panel. It is plug and
play and finds it as a removable drive. I would prefer
to be able to copy them off the camera that way they are
renamed and placed in its own folder..

Help!!
David

This 'fix' will correct your problem
Different ways to try to repair the Autoplay window for
downloading from
either a camera or card reader.

Go from steps I to V, although step V may not be needed.

I. Connect your camera to your computer, power it on and
make sure you have
pictures on your memory card. Make sure your batteries
are good or better
yet, use your AC adapter if your camera came with one. If
you are trying
with a card reader, just connect it with a memory card
inserted and with
pictures on the memory card.

II. Click on Start, click on Run and type the following
in the textbox:
REGSVR32 SHIMGVW.DLL
and press Enter
Note that there is a space between ...32 and SHI...
This will take a few seconds to run.

III. Go to the following site:
http://www.bigblackglasses.com/staff/downloads/autofix.exe

and download the autofix.exe file in one of your folder.
Once done, double
click on this file. A window will open. Follow the
directions on the screen.

Once done, turn off the camera and reboot.

IV. Power the camera on, wait 10-15 seconds for XP to
recognize it, you
should hear some beeping sound and the window should now
open giving you the
option of downloading photos from the camera.

V. You may have to set the options for this window.
Click on My Computer, your camera should be listed there
under Devices with
Removable Storage. Right click on it and click on
Properties. In the opening
window, click on the Autoplay tab and under Select,
scroll to Pictures to
select it. Select the button Prompt me...

I had a 6-in-1 card reader that wasn't coming up in the
wizard and this fix worked for me. Thanks for posting it!

I'm glad to hear this fix worked for David, but, it
didn't work for me. So, guess I have a different
problem. The fix said no problems found with Plug and
Play.
When I plug my digital camera in to transfer my pictures
there is a window that opens giving me transfer options.
When I click on Copy pictures to a folder on my computer
~ the window goes *poof* away. So, I'm transferring my
pictures the old-fashioned way now via My Computer, but,
sure wish it would work the xp way again. Any
suggestions?

I have yet to actually try this "fix". I am having the
same problem as one of the replies to my post. I will
attempt the fix, but have very limited expectations to it
working. i will keep you informed
