Cable modem and MS Fax?

Hi,
This has probably been covered before but I'll ask anyway. I'm a cable user
and we've recently dropped our land line in favor of the Cable Company's
phone system. MS fax no longer works. Is there a way to make it work thru my
cable modem? Failing that, is there a free fax program that can be used with
cable modem? I know eFax does it for a price.

I have Time Warner Digital Phone. I run the phone line from the cable modem to the modem in
computer and then to my regular phone, faxing works just like normal.

You can't send a fax via broadband internet. Sorry.

Cable and DSL are digital lines. A fax needs an analog line. Since you
can't use a standard DSL filter (because you only have cable) you would have
to use something like eFax.

A CABLE modem doesn't do faxes. You have to use a dial up modem that is
connected to your digital TELEPHONE wiring the same way you would
connect a wired telephone to your digital phone service.

Just to make it clear:

Your cable modem, with NO fax capability, is a broadband Internet device.

Your dial up modem, with its fax capability, is an analog telephone
device that connects to your digital telephone service through the
household phone wiring and the Network Access Device installed by your
cable company.
