Cable internet keeps dying

Well i have a problem with my cable internet. I'm on comcast right now
and the past couple of days my cable box has been restarting on me
randomly. I don't know what it could be from but i had it hooked up in
another room with another computer. With that computer it was hooked
up to a wireless router which is the Linksys WRT54GS router. I was on
my other comptuer with a wireless connection and my wireless
connection keeps going out on me. I would go look in the other room
where the cable box is and it would be flashing lights like its just
starting up and someone just plugged it back in. I took it out of that
room and plugged it into my room and the same issue has been going on.
I don't know if it has to do with my computer or with the cable modem
it self. It mostly happens when i'm playing a game like World of
Warcraft or just searching the internet. What can the problem be? I
called the cable company up and they said that there could be a
problem with the cable box but I don't want to have them come out for
no reason if its a problem on my end.

If the cable modem lights are flashing as if it is just starting up, you
have a problem with either the outside cable connections or the modem
itself. In any case, this is not a computer issue and you need to call
Comcast and have them fix your connection and/or replace the modem.

You really need to have Comcast come out and check it out. I have Comcast
also and their customer support is excellent..

Just listen to the cable company on that one, there's probably a problem
with the box.

I had my share of Comcast and Linksys WRT54GS wireless problems 1.5 years
ago:

some of my findings:

1: upgraded firmware- a Linksys software download, this made the need for
constant shutdown/resets to go away.

2: changed channel, Linksys tech support helped change some router settings
to improve performance.

3: Getting the cordless phone (in use) between the router and laptop would
wreak havoc with signal strength. Had the wife sit on the opposite side to
keep a straight line of site to the wireless router so the cross-talk
disappeared, connection stayed good.

4:problems returned when I upgraded AOL to version 9.0.. Linksys says it is
not compatible- I rolled back to 8.0 all problems with modem/router speed
loss and constant need for power reset disappeared
