Exactness of any error messages and details of the problem are the key to
your solution.

running win2k. did windows update and got a host of
updates.

pc had to reboot. when it tried to, it would get the blue
screen of death with the c0000135 error. couldn't find dll.

did a search on the error code and it came back with 3
possible choices. however, i can't boot machine, whether
to safe or command. when i tried booting off of a cd, it
said to boot from cd, press any key. when i did that,
nothing happened.

Try booting the setup disks to start the repair process (if that's what
you're trying to do)
