C:\Program Files\Common

Hi, when I restart my WindowsXP Pro system, the first screen / window that
appears a blank window with C:\Program Files\Common as the heading. Nothing
appears in the box and Windows did not advise me that it was unable to close
a program before it shut down so I am at a loss for what may be causing this
and would appreciate your help. Thanks, Bob

There is an entry in Startup that points to something in that folder.
Read the information here by MVP Ramesh:

http://windowsxp.mvps.org/dellfolder.htm - Dell folder opens when
logging on to Windows

The information is applicable even if you don't have a Dell. The
location of your malformed startup item is in the Program Files\Common
folder.

Bob,

Download Startup Tracker application from this page:
http://www.dougknox.com/xp/utils/xp_starttrack.htm

Launch the program, and click the "View log" button. Post the contents of
the log file here.

Thanks, Bob

Thanks Ramesh, I believe this is the information that you requested (less
the
un-needed data). Bob

Thank you for ALL your help Ramesh, unfortunately I still am UNABLE to follow

I can NOT locate ViewpointPhotosDeviceConnect.

Thanks,

Hi.

Don't look at the sub-keys. After selecting the "Run" branch, look in the
right pane for the value named "ViewpointPhotosDeviceConnect"

Thank you again for all your help Ramesh and sorry for being such a pain in
the &^%$. When I look at the right side of the screen the only thing that
appears is DEFAULT REG_SZ (value not set)
Anyway, what I did (and hopefully I did not screw anything else up) is put
in a Search (FIND) for ViewpointPhotosDeviceConnect and whenever I found a
hit / match, I place a " (quotation mark) before and after the statement. I
then went to Find Next and did the same thing until I searched all of the
Registry Editor. Hopefully this accomplished the same results that you were
trying to get me to do with your instructions? Thanks, Bob

Hope so, the "ViewpointPhotosDeviceConnect" does not usually exist in more
locations. But it's better to navigate to the location directly instead of
using search.
