Bypass Windows Logon Screen

Guest

I recently reinstalled XP and I can't remember how to configure my system to bypass the logon screen and boot straight to the desktop. I just tried going into start-run-control userpasswords2 but after I selected to not enter a username and password and hit ok it made me put a password for my account and when I rebooted, a message came up saying I could not be logged on. I left the password blank and the desktop came up. I would like to just bypass this entire screen if I could

Method 1

**NOTE** There must be only one user account on the
computer

Make the Welcome Screen Available
To make the Welcome screen available:
Click Start, click Control Panel, and then double-click
User Accounts.
Click Change the way users log on or off.
Click to select the Use the Welcome screen for fast and
easy logon check box.
Click OK.

Turn Of Guest Account Access
To turn off Guest account access:
Click Start, click Control Panel, and then double-click
User Accounts.
Click the Guest account.
Click Turn off Guest access.

Remove the Password from a User Account
To remove the password from a user account:
Click Start, click Control Panel, and then double-click
User Accounts.
Click the user account.
Click Remove my password.
Type the password in the Type your current password box,
and then click Remove Password.

Method 2

***NOTE*** THIS METHOD ALLOWS FOR MULTIPLE USER ACCOUNTS!

To turn the Welcome Screen on or off:

You must have a computer administrator account on a
computer that is a member of a workgroup or is a stand-
alone computer to turn on or turn off the Use the Welcome
screen feature. Logging on at the Welcome screen is not
available on computers that are members of a network
domain.

Open User Accounts in Control Panel.

Click Change the way users log on or off

Do one of the following:

To specify that users log on to the computer using the
Welcome screen, select the Use the Welcome screen check
box. A user logs on to the computer by clicking his or
her user account name on the Welcome screen. If a
password is assigned to the account, the user is prompted
to type it.

To specify that users log on to the computer without
using the Welcome screen, clear the Use the Welcome
screen check box. The Welcome screen will no longer
appear when you start the computer. To log on to the
computer, type your user name (and password, if you have
one) in the standard Log On to Windows dialog box.

Note: To disable the Welcome screen you can also open the
Registry editor and go to
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows NT\Current
Version\WinLogon
In the right pane, remove the entry for Gina.DLL.

Use Registry Editor (Regedit.exe) to add your logon
information:
Click Start, click Run, type regedit, and then click OK to
start Registry Editor.
Locate the following registry key:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\WindowsNT\CurrentVer
sion\Winlogon

Using your account name and password, double-click the
DefaultUserName entry, type your user name, and then
click OK.
Double-click the DefaultPassword entry, type your
password under the value data box, and then click OK.

If there is no DefaultPassword value, follow these steps
to create the value:
On the Registry Editor menu, click Edit, click New, and
then click String Value.
Type DefaultPassword as the value name, and then press
ENTER.
Double-click the newly created key, and then type your
password in the Value Data box.
If no DefaultPassword string is specified, Windows
automatically changes the value of the AutoAdminLogon key
from 1 (true) to 0 (false) to disable the AutoAdminLogon
feature.

Double-click the AutoAdminLogon entry, type 1 in the
Value Data box, and then click OK.

If there is no AutoAdminLogon entry, follow these steps
to create the entry:
On the Registry Editor menu, click Edit, click New, and
then click String Value.
Type AutoAdminLogon as the value name, and then press
ENTER.
Double-click the newly created key, and then type 1 in
the Value Data box.
Quit Registry Editor.
Click Start, click Restart, and then click OK.
After your computer restarts and Windows starts, you can
log on automatically.

************
If you want to bypass the automatic logon to log on as a
different user, hold down the SHIFT key after you log off
or after Windows restarts. Note that this procedure
applies only to the first logon. To enforce this setting
for future logoffs, the administrator must set the
following registry key:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\WindowsNT\CurrentVer
sion\Winlogon

Value:ForceAutoLogon
Type: REG_SZ
Data: 1
