buying windows xp full version or upgrade

I recently upgraded my computer (windows 98) to windows xp
pro. The problem is that it was a bootlegged copy and now
because of the blaster worm, I'm not able to download any
anti virus software or any critical updates from microsoft.

I want to purchase a legal copy with all the correct codes
to enable me to get rid of this worm. Would I need to buy
the full version of windows xp pro. or just the upgrade?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.
 
If you loaded XP on top of 98 then you will only need the
UPGRADE version.
