Buying a stand alone H/D.

Hi everyone.
I am thinking of buying a stand alone hard drive, the one I`m looking at is the "Seagate" 250gb FreeAgent Desk top drive.
As I don`t know a lot about them can I ask a few questions please?
Do you think that 250gb is enough,my daughter and I do a lot of pics?
Can I transfer data that is already on my computer as is. By that I mean that my computers H/D is set up so three people can access their part of the H/D will this arrangement be carried over to the stand alone?
Will the O/S be carried over,so if my computer H/D goes bang, I can run off the stand alone H/D?
Many thanks for any replies.

Hi historian,

I've split your post from the other thread as this is a different topic. :)

You can add the drive to the machine, it will be seen as another drive, you should just be able to it like that. :)

Hi V-R
Thanks for your reply.
I hate being pedantic but should the 5th word l/r bottom line read "do"
All the best
