I am looking to buy a new quad core pc with :-

  • Windows® 7 Windows® 7 Professional (32 BIT)
  • Microsoft home and business
  • With 4GB Memory or greater
  • 128mb graphics memory
  • a sound card
  • Hard disk of 160GB or more
I am starting up as a mortgage broker so speed is essential as well as doing several things at once
I have looked in several places and dell seem the best however I am unsure.

Whats your budget?

Also 128mb Graphics Cards are quite out of date these days. I would also recommend a bigger HD as well.

£705 without a monitor and with Win 7

A 22" monitor for £109

That works out at about £825.00 including delivery with Win 7 professional installed.

Windows 7 comes with two disks, 32 bit and 64 bit versions.

That system is probably more than you need so if budget is vital, go down a notch or two at Novatech.

Overclock.co.uk are worrth checking out as well for pre-built systems.

Edit: Just realised the thing doesn't have speakers supplied with it either. Naughty naughty Novatech. So add another £25.00 for a 2.1 loudspeaker system.

But it will play games :D

I have been looking at dell at the moment and seem to be getting more confused. Is dell any good?

They're ok I guess but not for me, not at all.

RAID 0 is two hard disks configured to work together as one. RAID 1 is two hard disks, one with OS on the other as permanent backup and non RAID is one disk with the OS on possibly working alongside independent hard disks.

If you're considering Dell, put all matters RAID from your mind.

are you saying dell are rubbish

No, they're not rubbish. If their spec appeals to you go for one.

But Dell are a law unto themselves and not easily upgradable.

Buying a custom made pc from the likes of Novatech or Overclock.co.uk is a much better option.

Whilst we're on the subject avoid Mesh and PC World - they are rubbish.
