It will be present my default, if not try these steps:

Method 1:
Click Start, Run and type the command "regsvr32 /n /i:U shell32"
(The Show Desktop SCF file should now be available)

Method 2: Manually create the Show Desktop file

Click Start, Run, and type Notepad. Type the following contents into the document.

[Shell]
Command=2
IconFile=explorer.exe,3
[Taskbar]
Command=ToggleDesktop

Save the file as "ShowDesktop.SCF" [beware of double-extensions. Always use double-quotes]
Drag the file to the QuickLaunch bar.

Right click the Taskbar, select Toolbars, Quick Launch. If the Show Desktop icon isn't there, see www.dougknox.com, Win XP Utilities, Restore Show Desktop Icon.
 
Right click desktop. "Arrange Icons By" popup list contains "Show desktop
icons"
