Business Fax numbers

Hello!

I use Outlook as my rolodex and prefer to keep all
information in the address book. MY problem is that when
I enter a business fax number for a contact, outlook adds
it to the drop-down contact list. It creates twice as
many 'contacts'. I do not use auto-dial or do any type of
calling/faxing activity from my computer. How can I stop
Outlook from automatically adding the fax number as
a 'contact' to select? For example, if I add John Smith
as a contact and include a business fax number, the
following will show up on the contact list when I hit
the "TO:" button.
John Smith (E-mail)
John Smith (Business fax)
If I delete the 'business fax' entry, it deletes the
number from the address book and completely defeats my
objective. I've used outlook for a long time and this is
the first time I've experienced this problem. ANY
SUGGESTIONS!?!?!?

Thanks!
Candice

Hi Candice,

I pulled this off of www.avidian.com/community which
addresses your problem

No more FAX numbers as an email address

Outlook 2000, 2002 and XP treats FAX numbers as valid
electronic communication so if you have both email and
fax in a contact, both show up when you hit send. There
is no way to default to only email. Three options exist
to save you headaches.

1. Put FAX number in a different slot so that the fax
field on contacts is empty.

2. Manually insert an alpha character or characters in
front of FAX number like FAX - this tricks outlook into
ignoring the FAX number as an email address.

3. Buy a utility that does this for you for $19.95 at
http://www.slipstick.com/contacts/nofax.htm

Hope this helps...

This is the default behavior for Outlook 2002. See the following page
for more information and a possible workaround:
