Burning to DVD-RW from Explorer

With a CD-RW I have always been able to add file to the disc, by simply
dragging and dropping into Explorer.

I've tried to do the same thing with a DVD-RW using Windows Explorer under
XP. The file gets marked with an Icon stating that is ready to be written,
but when I go to write the file explorer thinks the DVD-RW is a CD-RW.

Should I try a new brand of DVD-RW? Or is it simply not possible to add
files to a DVD-RW disc using windows explorer? Must I use a DVD authoring
tool such as Nero?

Yes, you must use third party software (Nero being a great example) to write
data to those disc.

The inbuilt burning in XP does not deal in DVD - you need one of the
third party packages like Nero. I would have expected one to come with
a drive
