Not all stand-alone DVD players (part of home theatre systems, not in a
computer) can read burned DVDs. Some can only read those of one or two
types.. (+R, -R, +RW, -RW, etc.) So you may have discovered one of your
DVD players can read -Rs, but the other one is a +R only capable, or perhaps
cannot read any.

I do have another "home-made" movie (made by someone else)- it was burned on
dvd-r, the brand name is Matrix, and it does work on the toshiba dvd
player......this is leading me to believe that it could be the brand name of
media.

If I can see the movie on one of my dvd players, is that assurance that I
burned it correctly?

Not all DVD medias are created equal! Head over to:

for more info on how to try to make DVD discs be the compatible with a wider
range of DVD TV players.
