I installed Windows XP SP 2 on a computer and now it won't boot. I
get a blue screen that says "Stop C0000135 winsrv not found." I cannot boot
this computer by any means apart from Linux CD's. The only CD that came with
the computer is an OEM CD that offers two choices-- "restore factory image"
or "totally reformat hard drive." Neither of those options is acceptable. I
do not want to uninstall/reinstall SP2. I went that route with another
computer a few months ago and it was the biggest pain in the neck and did
not solve the problem. That computer is stuck at an unstable SP1 and can't
be updated. I repeat, the computer will not boot, normal, safe mode, DSRM,
safe mode w/networking, nothing. There is no GUI. There is no command
prompt. As usual, Microsoft's supported solutions are totally impractical
and uninformative. Is there no way to use a Linux CD to jump start this
computer? I'll copy files, edit the registry, whatever-- but
uninstall/reinstall is simply unacceptable. Just tell me what got broken and
how to fix it manually.
