browser won't shut down

does anyone know what to do to make IE6 shut down with
the normal 'x'? all I get is a bell !!

Check for spyware/parasites.
Dealing with Unwanted Spyware and Parasites:

Disable, for diagnostic purposes, other programs which may be interfering
with IE. You may have to uninstall/reinstall a program such as antivirus,
internet security, ad-blockers, a toolbar or other add-on, etc.
