Browser weirdness

Howdy: I have a problem with my 'puter and not really sure where to
even start looking for answers. I have a pretty new home built box
that has been sitting for about a year with minimal use. Running
Windows 7 HP 64-bit. All of a sudden my browser (Firefox 3.6) started
acting strange. It would start jumping back and forth between the
History toolbar on the side and no toolbar at all (normal). It was
even doing it using MS Internet Explorer 8.

I yanked Firefox, completely deleting the program and all files. Then
re-installed Firefox 15 something or other. Same problem. Updated all
files and patches from IE8, also and no help there. Still same problem
on both browsers.

Got pissed, thought it was a trojan or worm, and completely wiped the
hard drive and then installed Linux Mint 12 64-bit and POW, same
problem with Firefox! So now I'm of the opinion that it is my machine
(hardware) that is making me go batty. Is this a correct assumption?

Everything on the 'puter works just fine for hours until I start up a
browser. Then it takes like ten-fifteen minutes until the browser
starts acting up and going crazy. I've checked and unchecked every
freakin' tab or option on all these browsers and nothing. I close the
browser and can then use the computer with all apps just like normal,
until I open the browser again.

Arrrrrrrgh! Help please. My sanity is at stake here. Right now I'm not
even sure I care if it gets fixed or not, but I damn sure would like
to know WHY it's doing this! Need more info, just let me know. Thank
you!

Damn, Mike, I think that did it! Thank you! I would never have thought
of that. My sanity is restored. Thank you again.
