Browser failures

I have had a problem for the last several days with my
browser not able to pull web pages by name. I found the
IP address for yahoo and can pull it that way. I already
was able to repair Microsoft Internet Explorer once which
worked, but today the same trick did not work. Does
anyone know what may be my problem?

It's most likely a problem with your DNS server. What DNS server(s) are you
using? Is this a standalone computer or are you on a network? If the latter,
what kind - workgroup or domain?

You can see your DNS server(s) if you run

ipconfig /all

froma command line.

Thanks for your response.
My computer is stand alone. It is running a Windows 2000
Server . My DNS server is listed as : 151.164.17.201
I don't know what that means. Do you?

Let me add to the good advice you received from Lanwench.

Check your hosts file (search for it). Open it in notepad and snoop around.
There may be an entry in there that's resolving yahoo to 127.0.0.1, your
computer and not the internet.

thanks - but can you break that down a bit? I am not that
computer literate. What should I do if I do find that
problem?
