Broadband slow sign in, can't get e-mail

Have XP Home with broadband and Microsoft software only
account. Computer is slow signing in, slow to load web
pages and unable to get e-mail. Had JS/Close virus-found
and deleted with McAfee. Reinstalled MSN8 and Internet
Explorer still extremely slow, much slower than dial-up to
sign in and load web pages. Can't get to e-mail. Is
there a fix for this problem. I'm a novice computer user.

The first thing I would do is call your ISP to check your
line.
The JS exception exploit (virus) is not a true virus it's
more like a Trojan that opens the door for others and is
easily removed and does not cause this problem
