Yet Another Control Panel query

After over 60 hrs of Windows Updates on a slow dial-up, I am desperate to
reset my Broadband connection, but the Network and Internet Connections page
does not show the internet connections icon, well, the titling; and Set up or
change your internet connection does not respond. Although trying a couple
of the 'Run' options as described in previous queries - I am still unable to
get the control panel to let me change settings. PLEASE - does anybody have
any further suggestions?

Tried powering off your broadband modem, leaving it for a mo before turning
it on?

Thank you - I did try your suggestion, I will frantically try any thing at
the moment! My router does register with my PC but, with the icon in the
control panel not working; I am unable to restore the Virgin broadband
connection. Having fought with getting connected to a router abroad I am now
unsure if I need to make any changes to re-access to Virgin.
It also seems too much of a coincidence that the icon disappeared after
catching up with all the updates from MSN - has anyone else 'suffered' since
the latest updates??
