Internet explorer

I am an unknowledgeable pensioner.
I have XP &SP2 Installed.
I recently changed from dial up to broadband.
I can access the internet using Firefox.
I am unable to access the internet using IE (7).
The message displayed reads IE cannot display the webpage.
Using the Diagnosing Connection Problems, it reports:
The problem might be related to firewall settings on HTTP Port (80), on
HTTPS Port (443) and/or FTP Port (21).
I have tried disabling all firewalls but with the same result. I have
checked to ensure that there are no dial up settings in Internet Options -
Dialups.

It would be nice to have this option working again.
Any ideas?

The IE connection setting should be 'never dial a connection', at IE, tools
menu, Options, Connection tab.

Thank you Mark but I had already done this and I am sorry I did not mention it.
Do you think that the broadband provider has installed some sort of firewall
automatically and this is blocking I/E and not Firefox?

No, I think you have some IE setting out. IE 7 has a box for using IE as
default. There is also a "Set Access and defaults" app on the start/all
programs menu, at the top.

Thank you for your continued support, Mark.
I have checked these settings, altered them, re altered them again and then
returned them back, having checked any progress each time.
Unfortunately, I/E will still not load and continues to state that it cannot
display the webpage.
Perhaps this IS connected to the change from dial up to broadband somehow as
they both worked previously. Incidentally, my broadband provider cannot come
up with any successful suggestions either.
It is good to see that someone is still trying to assist.

The Network Setup Wizard might do it.
start/run, type:
HH mk:mad:MSITStore:%windir%\Help\network.chm::/hnw_setupW.htm

Thank you again, Mark.
I am afraid this was no help either.
I have now checked all the settings possible but the problem still remains.
I am informed it must be the I/E itself. So I must try downloading it again.
It's worth a try although I don't hold out much confidence.

Before you do, see this Web page about troubleshooting IE7:

http://www.ie-vista.com/known_issues.html

Sometimes, rebooting *twice* and then running IE7 in the "No add-ons"
mode helps.

There's also helpful information on the proper way to install IE7.

And for info on uninstalling IE7:

http://www.ie-vista.com/kbase2.html

Since Firefox has been working for you, I'm sure this is strictly an IE
issue you are experiencing. Might be a third-party add-on or a proxy
setting.

Thank you for yor trouble. I tried running/installing IE7 twice and it now works.
As you suggested, it was directly connected to IE and not my new broadband.
Can't think why it should have gone haywire, but all is well now. Thank You!!
