E-mail attachments

I have Windows XP Media Center Edition
Internet Explorer 8
McAfee with MSN (note McAfee scans e-mail messages and attachments

I cannot attach a folder to an e-mail using either MSN or AOL mail. I can
only attach individual files.I know that in the past I was able to attach
folders. I may have been using an earlier version of IE.

I get a message above the e-mail (in yellow yellow bar)- Viruses or unsafe
files were detected in one or more attached files. The following
attachments were removed or cleared then it gives the name of the document
and says lnk (removed) and
I get messages on my desktop from MSN - Access to the following potentially
unsafe attachments has been blocked then it gives the mame of the folder
then . Lnk (removed).

I'm not sure what is going on here. Do I have to turn of the McAfee e-mail
scan. I never had to do this before.

IE is a browser and NOT any type of mail program. What e-mail program do you
use? What
happens if you shut down McAfee?

No to turn of the McAfee e-mail scan. You have to get rid of McAfee all together.
Try to disable the scan and not by using the switch because the scan is hooked into
the API and it will not close doing that route.
You need to uninstall McAfee using their uninstall tool and then re-install it
without the email integration (scanning) option

As mentioned, I use MSN and also AOL. If I turn of McAfee scanning, I do
not get any message but it still will not attach. I have scanned these
files and there is no problem mentioned.

This does not make sense to be because when I try to send individual
documents McAfee does not interfere. At this point I am not ready to
uninstall McAfee - it may just be a waste of time. Anyone else have any
suggestions,

I use neither MSN or AOL so don't know for sure how web mail is handled (by
what) but you are posting here with Outlook Express 6.00.2900.5843. My OE
is v.6.00.2900.5512. It won't attach folders and I'm reasonably sure
earlier ones did not either. I'd be rather surprised if *anything* did.

What you *can* do is zip the files in the folder and send the zip (since it
is a single file) or select (highlight) *all the files within a folder*,
then attach (they will be attached as multiple single files). Keep in mind
mist ISPs have a size limit on mail.

Thanks that worked.I zipped the file using Winzip. Note, previously before
posting, I did try to attach individual files and they attached; however,
there are some shortcuts included in the folder and they would not attach
either. I assumed that may have been due to the fact that the documents
they point to are not being included in the attachment. I also assume that
when the receiver clicks on these shortcuts they will get a message re
missing shortcut. That is OK with me. I just want the folder I am sending
to look like the one on my hard drive.

I did not tell you to uninstall it and leave it uninstalled. I told you to uninstall
it and then re-install it without the email integration option.

McAfee scanning is your issue

I don't know every e-mail program, but as a general rule, you can
*not* attach folders. You can only attach files. But you can attach
multiple files, and attaching all the files in a folder is easy, by
doing a select all (ctrl-a) and then attaching.

Just a guess, but if you've attached a folder before, perhaps you
attached a zip file, which looks like a folder.

Thanks. Now I'm clear on this issue.
