Broadband Router Setup

Hi, i have successfully setup a broadband router to work with my wireless
laptop. The only problem i have is with the security.

It is LINKSYS MODEL WRT54G. This is what i have done:

Under the section, BASIC WIRELESS SETTINGS:

I have disabled "Wireless SSID Broadcast".

Under the section, WIRELESS SECURITY:

I selected WEP, and entered a passpharse.

Under the section, WIRELESS MAC FILTER:

I enabled the MAC filter and clicked on the PERMIT ONLY tab. Therefafter, i
clicked on "EDIT MAC LIST". and entered the MAC ADDRESS of my laptop. (by
running CMD, AND THEN IPCONFIG /ALL.)

I saved the settings at regular intervals. but my laptop cannot pick up the
wireless network / router.

I managed to sort out the security another way, by selecting selecting WPA
PRE SHARED, and this did work, but i have to enter a password everytime i
want to connect.

can anyone help me.

1. Enable SSID broadcast. Disabling it provides no security at all. Name
the SSID something other than "Linksys".
2. Set your WEP key.
3. Remove the MAC filtering for now.
4. Start your laptop and make sure the wireless is turned on. Most
modern laptops have a button, switch or key press combination (FN +
some key) to turn the wireless capability on/off.
5. Your laptop should detect your wireless now. Configure the connection
by typing in the WEP key - not the passphrase if you used one.
