My sister bought a Vivitar ViviCam 5385 yesterday for £51 and also bought a 256mb card for £14. Has anyone got this camera or had any experience with it?

Thanks

Nope only stick to the Quality brands when it comes to cameras i'm afraid...although there are some good no name cameras out there that do a decent enough job..;)

As crazylegs stated sticking to quality brands is THE best policy. Nikon and Canon are the two best brands and together they have something like 75% of the business. There are specialised camera makers and some make even better cameras than the two market leaders but they do not cater for the masses.

I am sure the Vivitar will serve its purpose but not familiar with either its quality or its durability in the long run.

Vivitar ViviCam 5385 :)

I am afraid at this price point Nikon and Canon do not have anything on offer

Fantabulous Deal!

I was trying to look around for the details of the camera and I found a link and was really surprised that you got a fantastic deal which made me very happy. However, when I actually checked the link and went through the details I was even more surprised to know that the unit you bought is actually a very capable piece of kit and must say at a really bargain price.:thumb:

I would very much appreciate if you could post a few picks just for reference since it may be very helpful to some who may be looking for a camera under £100

Here is the link that I found where I checked the basic description of the camera. If you notice the price quoted is double than what you paid, wow!

And you wouldn't believe where it was bought from either :) Superdrug, when i was told about the camera i really didn't think it would be any good as they aren't known for digital cameras. It was at half price along with a couple of other camera but they had a lower mp and were more expensive. I was really suprised also when i was shown it for the first time. I didn't expect it to have the screen on the back for viewing pictures, maybe i was naive but as i don't know too much about cameras and when i saw the quality of the pictures i was very impressed. The quality was good especially for the price, it does the job as it will only be used for family pics but also for my sister's homework.

I didn't think i would every say this but you should go to your local superdrug and see if they are selling it, great value. Sure other cameras are better, but for what it is worth, not bad at all.

Shame its not my camera lol.

*Sorry if some of what i have written doesn't make sence, i have been typing all day working in uni work that has to be handed in tommorow.

Certainly looks that way aswell, luckily i didn't tell her not to buy it. My thoughts were it would be S**t as its from superdrug. I said to her ok get one and i will look on the net to see soem reviews and luckily enough quad was on hand to give me his expert opinion :)

Thought i would attach a couple of pictures to show the quality. Remember that she doesnt know what all teh settings are yet, so she isnt getting the best pictures as im sure she could.

I personally think the result is good. Tell your sister to play around with the settings to really know what the camera can offer in terms of adjustments for image taking. In my opinion the images that you posted appear to be very slightly underexposed, not necessarily a bad thing but by tweaking the camera settings it could be made to appear a bit brighter. This is just my suggestion and I am not really nitpicking. ;)

Yeah, i will tell her to make sure she reads about all the settings. Thanks for your advice. I may be looking for a camera aswell in the future, but would like a better quality one, my budget would be £100, any suggestions? If you have a few links i would be v grateful.

Oh, also the batteries seem to run out pretty quickly on her cam, but thats the only down side.

Stuart,

When you buy a camera from known brand like Nikon or Canon, they actually take care of many things, for instance low battery drain, recyclable parts etc etc. Lesser known brands target a very different market and they know they can get away with many things hence the lower price.

I will see what is a good deal and will let you know what to choose. Please let me check the trend/prices as of today.

I looked very hard to find a deal for you basically looking for models from Canon and Nikon at around £100 but unfortunatelythere is nothing on offer from the two makers. However, if you find a bargain somewhere that I am not aware of that would be great.

Nonetheless, as you requested I did look for many alternatives and found two great deals for you to consider. If you are not happy with the suggestion no worries we will continue to look around and find you a nice camera. My commitment to you will always be there.;)

Meanwhile I found a Sanyo model which I think is the bargain of the year, at least that is what my personal opinion is. Mind you it comes with a 512MB SD card FREE.

Sanyo Xacti

Secondly there also a nice model from Olympus for your scrutiny.:)

I just recently bought my new toy which is a Canon EOS 350D. This is a beauty, but also a little more expensive. I have been saving my money for it for quite a while and I just got it about 3 weeks ago. If you are willing to do a little saving I would highly recommend doing so, as the Canon brand is well known for quality and good service. I have requirements to cameras as it has been hobby of mine for quite a few years now, I am sure others could settle for less. I have never heard of the Vivitar ViviCam 5385 before.

My new camera :D
