Ran Nortons 2003 Anti-Virus and Clean Sweep
Next day upon starting up win 2000 noticed Not able to use CD Rom Drive
Neither CD rom or CD-RW drive shows up in Control Panel
They do show up in post, and in device manager, but have conflicts
Error Code is: 31. "this device is not working properly because windows canot load the drivers required forthis device
I removed both from device manager and restarted. Windows shows them in POST, and not in My computer when started up
windows did recognize them at start up and said it loaded the drivers
Still did not show in Device manager. I went to "update drivers" and searched the INF files and win said the properdrivers are already loaded. I went to windows update and it found the proper drivers were loaded, so I opted to re-install them anyway
still no luck, no CD rom drives show in MY computer

At any point in time have you had EZ-CD Creator installed (or tried to
uninstall it)?

If the A: drive is also inaccessable it's a Norton issue and you should
search their site for the article containing the error message.
Otherwise have a look at this article

Cannot Access CD-ROM and "Code 31" Error Message in Device Manager After
You Remove Adaptec Easy CD Creator from(or some other programs too)
Your Computer
