Both CD drives have stopped working.

Both of my CD drives have stopped working. When I put in a CD, any CD, the
green light blinks for a few seconds- then nothing. My Computer says there is
no disk in either drive when they both have disks. When I go to properties,
it's says that both drives are working correctly- but there not!
What is wrong and how do I fix it??
THANKS!

Time for new CD drives.

Bad ribbon cable, if they are on the same cable. Or one of the drives
is bad and the other is getting dragged down with it. Try removing
one. (again if they are on the same cable).

Bad IDE channel maybe? If so, a new MB is in your future.

He could add a plug in card to add more IDE ports.
If money is an issue, a 20$ card vs. new pc, memory, reload etc is a bit
easier to swallow. Its a band aid but it could work.

Before I did anything drastic, I'd uninstall both of them using the
Device Manager. Then, after unplugging just ONE of them, restart your
machine. It could just be that reloading the drivers would bring them
back to life. Alternatively, you could try and update the drivers, but
I never seem to have much luck doing that. If the drive works, then
turn the machine off and plug in the next one and reboot.
