Border toolbar buttons

Tools > Customize has two border-related toolbar buttons that would be
convenient, but for a major annoyance.

The buttons are "BorderLineStyle" (aka "Border Style") and "BorderLineWeight".

Instead of simply setting the line style and line weight that you desire (which
would then be invoked using the BottomBorder, LeftBorder, and similar buttons),
these two buttons cause the Tables and Borders toolbar to appear (floating) and
force the window into Page View. Who asked for these effects??

Is there any way to turn these effects off? (Probably not.)

Does anyone perhaps have an Add-In that includes these buttons, without the two
"special" effects -- or any other solution?

Thanks for any help.

If you turn on the Tables and Borders toolbar via the View>Toolbars menu
item, the use of the buttons on that toolbar does not have those effects.

If you turn on the Table and Borders toolbar and fix it in the Toolbars area,
this toolbar no longer floats out when you click on the BorderLineStyle or
BorderLineWeight buttons. But they still force the window into Page View (from
Normal View, which is where I ordinarily have the view set).
